— Salmo 23

In Loving Memory of Nilsa Mercedes Marcano Bairan “Mamita”
July 2, 1939 — January 19, 2026

With deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nilsa, affectionately known to all as Mamita, who passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the age of 86.
Mamita was the devoted mother of her cherished children, Yesmin and Juan Carlos, and a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother who brought endless joy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her laughter filled every room, and her presence made everyone feel loved, protected, and at home.
In her younger years, Mamita expressed her love through cooking, lovingly teaching her daughter and granddaughter the traditional recipes that became a cornerstone of the family. Though she eventually stopped cooking, her recipes, teachings, and love live on through the dishes still prepared in her honor, always reminding us of her Puerto Rican roots and the care she poured into her family.
Mamita was a proud Puerto Rican woman, deeply connected to the traditions, music, faith, and culture of Puerto Rico. Her heritage lived through her joyful spirit: in her love for Puerto Rican music, her lively dancing, contagious laughter, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. Whenever music played, Mamita would dance, reminding us to celebrate life and find joy in every moment.
She was a woman of great strength, wisdom, and resilience, and a tireless worker throughout her life. Mamita devoted herself fully to her family and her work, and eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of diligence, perseverance, and pride in all she achieved. She was strong, intelligent, and never afraid to speak her mind. While kind and loving, she was also brave and fearless, living her life with dignity and strength, remaining strong until the end.
Mamita lives within us: in our faith, strength, laughter, music, and family traditions. Her legacy of love, dedication, hard work, and extraordinary resilience will remain in our hearts forever.
Though her heart has stopped beating, her spirit never did. She is now reunited with her parents, whom she adored, her siblings, and her beloved dog Campana, with whom she laughed and danced, together in eternal peace.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." — Psalm 23
